Van Cleef & Arpels has a long-standing tradition when it comes to fairies. Already in the early 1940s did the brand made clips featuring these magical figures, which represent hope and joy. One of the signature features was that a rose-cut diamond formed the head, above which a headdress further marked their magical appearance. Haute Complication: Greubel Forsey GMT Earth

If there would be a competition for the finest and most complex travel watch, the GMT Earth from Greubel Forsey will for sure be a top contender to win. Housed in a bold, 45.5mm large case made of white gold does it display world-time as well as a second timezone in the most dramatic way possible. It doesn't often happen, especially not with a Greubel Forsey, but these complications take the stage from the inclined tourbillon, with which this watch is also fitted.

Zenith Kicks Off 2021 With New El Primero

It is not more than fitting that Zenith kicks off the new year by introducing another version of the Chronomaster Revival A385. By adding this final El Primero to the two that were launched previously, the line-up with which Zenith introduced this groundbreaking movement to the world in 1969 is complete. The most eye-catching detail of the Chronomaster Revival A385 is its gradient brown dial, which offers quite a contrast with the white subdials and date wheel. Style and legibility go therefore hand in hand in this faithful remake of the original.

Haute Complication: Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 days In Colored Sapphire

A tourbillon is, in a pure sense, a regulating device and not a complication. While it does indeed add an extra function to a watch, it is substantially more challenging to make than the regulating organs usually found inside a timepiece. Because of this, many rank the tourbillon among the complications, and while it is relatively rare, it is also quite popular. While in essence a classic creation dating back to the days of the pocket watch, brands like Richard Mille, Greubel Forsey, and Hublot have taken the lead by using it in distinctly modern-day creations. A great example of this is the Big Bang Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 days in colored sapphire.

Watch of the Week: Rolex GMT-Master II

In 1953, Pan Am executives asked Rolex-founder Hans Wilsdorf if he could develop a watch that could show two timezones at once. Always focused on innovation, Wilsdorf accepted the challenge and soon after penned down the first ideas of what would become the GMT-Master. Like nearly all the watches in the Professional-line of Rolex, was also the GMT-Master immediately embraced by the public. Demand was strong, and the GMT-Master would become one of the pillars of the Rolex collectsion. In 1982, Rolex debuted the GMT-Master II. The main difference between this model and the GMT-Master I was that you could pull out the crown and set the hand for the second-timezone individually.

What To Expect In The World Of Watchmaking For 2021

2020 was, without a doubt, a turbulent year. This didn't exclude the watchworld. The first two quarters looked grim for many watch brands, but as the Covid-19 pandemic played out, the markets showed their resilience, making this year not as gloomy for the industry as it could have been. So far, 2020 claimed only one distinct victim, as RJ watches (formerly known as Romain Jerome) closed its doors, but what can we expect for the new year?

Haute Time’s Hottest Watches Of 2020 Part II

Despite the pandemic, many brands did not hold back when it came to releasing new models. Haute Time’s Hottest Watches Of 2020

In many ways, 2020 was not an ordinary year. The Covid-19 pandemic left its marks everywhere. Lockdowns not only slowed down international travel but also confined us more and more into our own direct surroundings. This required tremendous perseverance and ingenuity to keep businesses afloat and remain in contact with those that matter. At first, it looked like the watch industry would take a direct hit. Jewelers worldwide were forced to close their doors, trade shows where canceled, and even many manufactures had to stop production for a while due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Switzerland. But as the pandemic continued, the market recovered. Jewelers sold more online than ever before, with a strong demand for the latest models and an intensified interest in vintage watches. Many watch brands had already planned their releases for this year prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, so the effect on that will be more visible next year. However, 2020 was a year worthwhile in watchmaking, of which the following were amongst the hottest releases.
