Watch of the Week: Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater Sandblasted Rose Gold

Bulgari has spoiled us over the last few years with ultra-thin delicacies that they presented within the Octo Finissimo collectsion. One of the highlights in this line-up is, without a doubt, the minute repeater. It has a natural attraction to watch connoisseurs because of its complex mechanism, but also due to the sound it makes. Many brands have invested significant resources in improving the vibrance and tone when the hammers hit the gongs, but Bulgari also focussed on the movement itself. Through clever engineering, they succeeded in making it only 3.12mm thick, which is as astonishing as it is record-breaking.

Dazzling Diamonds Dominate The New Vacheron Constantin Égérie Moon Phase Jewellery

Vacheron Constantin is a brand that not only has a serious reputation to uphold when it comes to mechanical masterpieces but also in the world of diamond-set watches they are a force not to reckon with. Throughout their entire history, they have created watches in which diamonds and other gemstones played the glamorous lead role. Most notably was the Kallista collectsion from the late 1970s and early 1980ss, which were all about diamonds and the most expensive wristwatches of their time. With the Égérie Moon Phase Jewellery does Vacheron Constantin continue this tradition in a dazzling way.

Going Green For St.Patrick’s Day

If I had written this article a couple of years back, I would have said that green was a trend color, but this is not the case anymore. Many brands have not only adopted green as a staple color within their collectsion but also make many different types of watches with this color. From classic dress watches and utilitarian pilots to diving watches and sporty chronographs, green is here to stay, and what better day to wear a green watch than on St.Patrick's Day?

Bold And Bronze: The Staying Power Of A Not So New Material

As a material, does bronze have an imposing history playing, especially an essential role from around 3300 till 600 BC. During this period, which is even named the Bronze age, was the alloy made from combining tin with copper. The advantage of bronze was that it is very malleable and also less brittle than, for example, cast iron, so perfect for making a great variety of different objects. As the material is very resistant to corrosion from seawater, it has also played a particularly important role in maritime history.

Four Top Tourbillons That Take Your Breath Away

While a tourbillon is, in general, a complication that will put most watch connoisseurs in awe, there is quite a difference among them. The most traditional ones feature a bridge on both sides, in between which they do their mesmerizing dance. A flying tourbillon lacks the front bridge, which allows you to see more of the intricate parts that make a tourbillon work. As the tourbillon is such a popular complication, many brands have made it a focal point for their technical creativity, which has resulted in watches that truly take your breath away.

Exquisite Watches That Say It With Flowers

Flowers have been a source of inspiration for jewelry since the beginning of time. Centuries ago, skilled goldsmiths already worked gemstones and gold into creations that resembled their natural counterparts. In watches, this is less common, because it is far more challenging to integrate the beauty of a flower within an object that is limited in its dimensions and also has another function to full fill. Of course, this didn't stop a fair amount of brands from pursuing this avenue and say it with flowers.

Grand Seiko Dazzles With Diamonds To Mark Its Anniversary

In recent years has Grand Seiko put more of an emphasis on precious metal-cased watches. With them, the brand has made quite an impact, and it is now expanding it by also putting its gem-set watches more in the spotlight. The Spring Drive 8 Days Jewelry Watch from their Masterpiece collectsion is a great example of the unique style that Grand Seiko utilizes in creating these watches. In a 43mm platinum case, diamonds and blue sapphires unite in a magical way form with function.

Louis Vuitton Goes High-Tech For New Tambour Curve Flying Tourbillon

The watch collectsion of Louis Vuitton has always been carefully curated to ensure that it truly represents the DNA of the brand. This has always been a mix of traditional craftsmanship combined with forward-thinking design. Louis Vuitton started this tradition with its very first watch-collectsion, back in the 1980's, which was designed by the famous Italian architect Gae Aulenti. She not only created watches on occasion but was also responsible for transforming Musée d'Orsay in Paris from a train station into one of the most renowned art museums in the world.

Take The Plunge With These Deep Dive Watches

There are plenty of top-tier timepiece brands that have at least one diving watch in their collectsion. However, there are some watchmakers that also make deep dive watches that can withstand extreme pressures. Granted, dive watches are able to go deeper than humans can ever go and deep-diving watches have depth ratings that can only be described as absurd. But, over-engineering is one of the beauties of modern mechanical watches—it’s not a matter of necessity but rather, possibility. With that in mind, here are three deep dive watches that are proudly depth-defying.

New Models And Movements Take Grand Seiko Further Into The Future

2020 is an important year for Grand Seiko as it celebrates its 60th anniversary. A unique occasion with they commemorate not only with new watches but also with new movements. As the brand has always been future-minded, they take this year to not only further cement their position with the world of the Haute Horlogerie but also to strengthen their foundation for the future.

Four Watch Designs That Stood The Test Of Time

Staying power is something that every watch brand hopes for when they launch a new model. Achieving this is far more complicated than it might seem at first. Many new models will be tweaked in their design within a relatively short period after their launch, while others ride a wave of fashion only to be discontinued as this wave is taken over by another one. Only with a rare few, the passing of time doesn't seem to get a hold of them. They have become icons for their respective brands, and benchmarks for the rest of the industry. But that doesn't mean that they did it by merely being idle.
